When Mason takes on East Lansing at 7:30 p.m. today in the CAAC Gold Cup final for the first time, it will be for the first time this year.
But it will not be the first time the two area powers have faced on another in a winner-take-all clash.
The Trojans and the Bulldogs, currently ranked second and seventh in the state rankings, are perennial Division 2 title contender who have a long history of classic games in state tournaments and in past CAAC Cups.
Foremost in the minds of this year’s teams will be last year’s CAAC Gold Cup semifinal, in which the Trojans defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 en route to their first Gold Cup title and the Division 2 state championship.
