Peter Magnusson, who caused a stir this summer when he left his position as Snapchat’s vice president of engineering after only six months, has taken on a role at Oracle as senior vice president of cloud development. He’s been at his new gig for the past two weeks.
Prior to Snapchat, Magnusson worked as an engineering director for Google where he helped the search giant build out the Google App Engine. His departure from Google to Snapchat created a bit of controversy when Snapchat co-founder Bobby Murphy apparently told the Wall Street Journal that Magnusson’s expertise would help Snapchat develop in-house infrastructure, which led to Magnusson clarifying and softening the statement.
While the move to Oracle may seem strange, Oracle has been pushing its cloud in recent years and did just announce (again) its revamped PaaS and cloud platform, so the company is gaining some Google expertise…
